Speech & Educational Therapy

Speech and Educational Therapy in Singapore

Our Speech & Educational Therapy programme is designed for children who experience both language and literacy challenges. Research shows that many children with dyslexia also present with underlying language difficulties, which can affect reading comprehension, spelling, written expression, and overall academic confidence. Instead of attending separate sessions for speech therapy and educational therapy, this integrated programme addresses both areas together in a cohesive, evidence-based approach. Conducted by a speech therapist trained in educational therapy methods, sessions target foundational language skills alongside structured literacy instruction (including approaches such as Orton-Gillingham where appropriate). By supporting both spoken and written language within one coordinated programme, we help children build stronger foundations, reduce learning frustration, and develop confidence across communication and academics.

Why one programme

How Likely Is It That My Child Has Both Dyslexia and a Language Disorder?

Research suggests that dyslexia and language disorder often occur together. In a longitudinal study, nearly 58% of children identified as having dyslexia also met criteria for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), and about 48% of children with DLD also fulfilled criteria for dyslexia, highlighting the high rate of comorbidity between decoding and broader language challenges (Snowling, Nash, Gooch, Hayiou-Thomas & Hulme, 2019). This means that many children with reading difficulties also struggle with underlying oral language skills, the foundation of successful literacy learning.

Our Speech & Educational Therapy programme is specifically designed to address this overlap by integrating support for both language and literacy within one coordinated intervention. Delivered by a speech therapist trained in educational therapy, this programme means families don’t need to attend separate services; instead, children receive targeted support that reflects the interconnected nature of communication and reading development.

What Parents Say

Here is what families tell us after working with our team:

★★★★★
Working with Xian Hui since the end of 2023 upon my son’s ASD diagnosis… his transformation has been remarkable, he now consciously spells words using correct sounds, and his social communication has improved. Most importantly he looks forward to attending the weekly session.
Mother of a 7-year-old boy, E
★★★★★
Teacher Tammy took the time to understand my child’s unique needs and worked diligently on the specific sounds he struggled with. The progress has been tremendous — and the invaluable tips she shares mean we can keep building his speech at home.
Mother of a 7-year-old boy, R
★★★★★
I could see the significant changes in her speech — clarity, confidence and articulation. Sounds she couldn’t pronounce at first, she now says out loud, and she even corrects herself. It improves her self-esteem every time she expresses her thoughts.
